Effect of Sowing Date of Resistant and Susceptible Faba Bean, <i>Vicia faba</i> L. Cultivars on <i>Orobanche crenata</i> Forsk Seed Bank and Faba Bean Production

The broomrape, Orobanche crenata Forsk (Orobanchaceae) is a serious annual parasitic weed that causes considerable losses in many major crops including faba bean (Vicia L.). In Egypt: due to O. crenata parasitism may reach 40 100%. Despite using several methods control crenata, success has not been achieved. impact of different tactics on crenata is well understood. However, Sowing date appears be one the potential solutions for controlling crenata. this work we investigated effect sowing dates both level infection by and pod yield resistant (Giza 843) susceptible (Nubaria 1) cultivars naturally Orobanche infested soil. Moreover, seeds production was determined as an indication seed bank future adding Under free conditions, Nubaria 1 cultivar produces more than cultivar. results demonstrated that, late (3 weeks after normal date) reduced significantly number emerged shoots cultivars., Late similarly contributed significant increase (dry weight (kg)/plot) especially Giza 843 (5.15 ± 0.02 Kg /plot), cultivar, which produced much higher (2.98± 0.06 /plot) during first season (2019 - 2020). During second (2020 2021), (3.85 0.10) (5.49± 0.76) Kg/plot cultivars, respectively, compared with early date. Furthermore, regarding seasons, per spike decreased cultivars.
